Tumour Summits are clinician-led forums to identify unwarranted variations in tumour-based clinical practice and cancer outcomes that could be addressed through statewide action.
As a strategy of the Victorian Cancer Plan 2020–2024, Tumour Summits support implementation of Optimal Care Pathways (OCPs). Statewide data is provided for benchmarking against OCP guidelines and between different geographic regions in the state. There are currently 18 tumour-type-specific OCPs. The Tumour Summits have nine active tumour streams.
Multidisciplinary clinical working parties are formed to guide the planning of each summit, oversee data analysis and presentation, and guide the refinement of recommendations linked to the OCP guidelines. Clinical working parties comprise cancer clinicians based in metropolitan, rural and regional settings.
The Tumour Summits are an initiative of the Victorian Integrated Cancer Services (VICS) – a network of nine services across Victoria that connect health professionals and other stakeholders to improve care and support for all people affected by cancer.
The Victorian Tumour Summits e-newsletter is a bimonthly email with VTS project updates, updates on outcomes from summits and consumer stories. Subscribe to receive communications here.
